In recognition of her dedication and service to students, families, and colleagues, Meade County Schools is proud to announce Mrs. Anita Hobbs of Barry Hahn Primary School as the 2026 Classified Team Member of the Year and recipient of the prestigious Fred Award. Known affectionately by many students as “Mrs. Anita,” she is recognized for the joy, kindness, and servant heart she brings to her work each day.
For many families, Mrs. Anita is one of the first faces their children encounter as they begin their journey in Meade County Schools. Each morning, she welcomes students with a smile and an enthusiasm that helps children feel safe, valued, and excited to come to school. One nominator, whose older children were supported by Mrs. Hobbs more than a decade ago and whose youngest child now sees her each morning, shared that Mrs. Anita is a big part of why her children have loved school from the very beginning.
Her care extends far beyond her assigned responsibilities. Mrs. Hobbs is known for stepping in wherever help is needed and for finding quiet ways to encourage others. She often leaves small gifts for coworkers without taking credit or expecting recognition, simply wanting others to know they are appreciated. Even ordinary moments become opportunities to serve, whether helping a parent who forgot a child’s snack or offering reassurance when someone needs it most.
BHP Principal Jenna Brown praised Mrs. Hobbs’ impact, sharing that “Anita brings an unmistakable sense of joy and care to Barry Hahn Primary every day. She has a special way of making children and adults feel welcomed, supported, and valued. Her willingness to serve wherever she is needed and her genuine love for people make her an extraordinary member of our BHP family.”
Personnel Director Janette Schmidt reflected on the qualities that make Mrs. Hobbs so deserving of the Fred Award, noting that “Anita demonstrates the impact one person can have simply by choosing every day to serve others with kindness and joy. She does more than what is expected, looks for ways to encourage the people around her, and never seeks recognition for herself. She represents the very best of ‘Students First, Team Always’ and the spirit we hope to see in every member of our team.”
Mrs. Hobbs’ recognition as Classified Team Member of the Year highlights the important role classified employees play in shaping students' and families' experiences. Her work demonstrates that making a difference does not always require a grand gesture. Often, people remember the consistent smile, helping hand, encouraging word, or quiet act of kindness most.
Each spring, an awards committee made up of students, employees, and parents seeks nominations from across the district. Nominees may then choose to complete an application for competitive consideration.
